Getting Haute With Lindsay Sears…

linz1Lindsay and Martha doing what they do best

You know her as the 2008 world champion barrel racer. You have seen her amazing runs on her horse “Martha” and you have heard she has quite a love for fashion. So imagine how honored I was when the incomparable Lindsay Sears agreed to chat with me about fashion and share with us her haute style.

How would you define your style, in and out of the arena?
My style in the arena is a mix of chic modern clothes with a little bit of traditional accessories. I wear customized shirts that I design myself and they are influenced a lot by my past experience in figure skating. My choice of jeans range from sevens, Rock n Republics, Joe’s, Paige’s, Hudson’s and a few others. I love dark denim! I have custom made hats that have a classic look (1 black and 1 brown), they both have a bound edge with ribbon that was from the 40′s and 50′s which I just love because it’s so unique. My boots are Ariat’s. I wear all of Ariats boots! I prefer the traditional classy look when it comes to boot styles.

Outside the arena my style usually ranges from whatever is the new “it” trend mixed with a little bit of my own signature style. I love skinny jeans and flats or heels if I’m going out for dinner paired with some kind of layered top. I love layers especially in the winter.
My favorite tops usually come from BCBG or Michael Kors, they have great sweaters and tops that can be either dressed up or down based on what jewelry and shoes you wear. What you will normally see me in during the day when I’ m at home is a pair of skinny jeans and flats with a casual top. I really have worn out the whole leggings and sweaters with tall boots this year I love that look it’s very comfortable and the leggings keep you warm during the winter.

Three things in your closet you couldn’t live without?
My Joes’s skinny style jeans, Tory Burch flats, Nicole Miller black dress and my Gucci bag…oops that’s four things.

Favorite mainstream (couture) designer? Western designer?
I love Nicole Miller dresses. I love Tory Burch shoes, Gucci bags, John Hardy jewelry, and Seven Jeans are my favorite jeans.

Favorite western designers are Ariat Boots, I love square toed boots and I love their english style boots they make for great boots to wear with leggings and a sweater

Is your style in the arena influenced by your”out of the barn” style?
I think my “Arena” style is highly affected by my out of “Arena” style and what is going on in the fashion world, for example this year we did a lot of shirts at the NFR that had a lace overlay over top of a metallic color, which was one of the more popular styles for the dresses last fall. I always try to design my shirts for the NFR based on what is the latest trend or what fabrics are really trendy at that time.

What is one western trend you love? One you hate?
One western trend that I love is Ariat’s square toed boots. One western trend that I hate is the whole “Bling” trend.

Because you travel so much, where is your favorite city to shop?
My favorite places to shop are Dallas and Houston at the Galleria malls, and in Vegas there is always great shops in Vegas.

While on the road, do you have to bring an extra suitcase to accommodate your purchases?
It’s kind of sad because when I’m rodeoing I rarely have time to shop, so when I am able to shop I usually do a lot of damage and usually need another suitcase.

What are the top 3-4 things you can’t leave the house without?
Sunglasses, chapstick, and hand cream, I always need hand cream!

Who is your style icon, any celeb you really love for her style?
I really think that Jennifer Aniston always looks good.

Are you a beauty product junkie, if so what are some of your favorite products?
No, I’m not a beauty product junkie but I love Dermalogica face products and Mac make-up.

What do you think makes a cowgirl so stylish and haute?
The thing that I think is very important for a cowgirl is her hat and boots. That is what I always notice first, is the shape of her hat and her boots.

Your known for your fabulous turn-out at rodeos. Where do you find such fabulous ensembles?
I have most of my shirts all custom made and I design them. My jeans are usually dark denim low rise and some kind of designer like even, joe, rock n republic, etc. I usually love to wear some kind of belt that is a little different than the typical “bling” trend.

If you weren’t a barrel racer, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t a barrel racer I would hopefully be using my degree in economics and be trading commodities or working on Wall Street.

I would like to thank Lindsay for taking time out of her hectic schedule to talk fashion with me. Isn’t she fabulous? And gorgeous?

Maybe if we all show her some comment love, we can convince her to come visit with us again!

Stay Pretty

  10. Hi. I needed to drop you a quick note to impart my thanks. I’ve been watching your blog for a month or so and have picked up a heap of sound information as well as enjoyed the way you’ve structured your site. I am setting about to run my own blog however I think its too general and I would like to focus more on smaller topics.
